For the second time, Villanelle refuses to abandon her, insisting that "we are the same. " When Eve fails to emerge from the hotel, Villanelle tucks a gun in the waist of her killer red pantsuit and heads in to find her. And who's waiting between the top of the stairs and Eve's room but Raymond, wielding a red-tipped axe and doing his best Jack Torrance impression. Raymond drops the axe so they can grapple hand to hand, and it's only when he gets the upper hand and starts choking her to death against an ornamental metal screen that he notices Eve behind him, holding the weapon. "Do it, " whispers Villanelle. "She doesn't have it in her, " laughs Raymond. He's wrong, of course, as Eve drives the axe deep into his back for the one reason she's always done the very stupidest things: to save Villanelle. The wound slows him down but doesn't kill him, and Villanelle whispers again: "Don't think, Eve. He will come after us. " Eve pulls out the axe and strikes him in the head, until whatever he was is gone.
The skinny: some of the greatest action sequences ever; as a film, this sucked. As for the action, the hallway fight against Hammer Girl and Baseball Boy is great (dig the camerawork when he smashes the baseball bat into the guy and when it settles and he lets go, the bat is still lodged into the dude's face), as is the kitchen scene against the assassin (dig the drum taps in the intro as they're sizing each other up; the early five-point combo). But the lesser-discussed ones have just as much care in them: the first prison fight scene, when he goes at the wall (an update on The Raid: Redemption when he goes at a boxing bag), some of the ways he handles the no-names when he charges the warehouse for the final act. And plenty of memorable moments: when he starts twisting the broom handle; the ripples across in slow motion when he gets tossed into the mud; Rama sticking a shiv into a prison inmate's tricep; when Eka unloads an entire clip into the motorcycle guy's helmet and the car proceeds to run over the corpse.

Ditto the thrill of the hunt. The film uses the extra time to, of all things, develop characters and give this dystopian fable a human scale.
