The comparison to Shakespeare may seem to be a contradiction in terms, and yet it is possible to achieve with the collaborative efforts of a stellar cast, director and writers. The Five Points (current day Chinatown) was a hub of merging cultures, in large part Irish and African American, which the film pays a nod or two to (the tapdancing scene, for example).
