So I have been rewatching some episodes of The Orville and like a lot of sci shows they have a machine that they call a "Matter Synthesizer" or in Star Trek "Matter Replicator". You know the machine that you push a button/say what you want, and it appears. In one of the episodes they make a point of saying money became obsolete once these type of machines were invented. In these machines they are able make anything from clothes, tools, food, and alcohol such as wine and vodka. They never say any brand names obviously because it is on TV, it's always just vodka or Chardonnay. So, I have two questions/thoughts about this type of machine that I wanted to hear the thoughts of others on. Do you think if this type of machine was invented and given to every person/household there would really be no use of money anymore? I would think no, because otherwise how would anyone work. No one is going to work for free, I think one character on the show says something along the lines of "People take a job they can take pride in".
