The plot isn't a new one: a good man working on the right side of the law loses his wife after she's shot to s*** in their, grief stricken (obvs) hell bent on on the naughty wee buggers and all hell breaks loose. It might not be a new idea, what is these days anyhoo? but it's a brilliant movie which holds it's own easily amongst all the others out there. It's far superior to most of the revenge films I've seen and it confirms Vin Diesels acting ability. He is far more than a tortured widower in this and utterly convincing. The plot, while not incredibly original, is still good enough to hold your attention. If you like movies like Man on Fire with Denzel Washington or Training Day, then A Man Apart is sure to be a solid choice for you. I've held back on giving it 5 stars only because the ending was a little weak (in my opinion). I wouldn't want that to dissuade anyone from giving this movie a shot though.
