Saw this movie at a sold-out IMAX on opening night, this is one of a few scenes in the movie that I vividly remember the audience reaction (one of the others was the massive cheering when you find out Gordon's still alive). Not a flawless movie by any stretch but for all its ambition and what it did for the "comic book movie" genre I firmly hold this as one of the greatest movies of all time. And of course Heath Ledger's performance. I actually remember walking out of the theater lobby and immediately calling a friend on the phone, telling him he had to see this movie. He watched it and loved it, and incredibly he didn't even know about Batman Begins until after the fact. It's weird to think how ubiquitous comic book movies have become in the past decade, and Dark Knight is a big part of that. Clearly I'm not great at putting my proper feelings into text so I suggest reading this James Berardinelli review because it espouses a lot of what I feel much more eloquently than I ever could.
