I Never forgot the impression it made on me, thought it was such a tragic but beautiful story, between a young lady, mother, willing to be independant and fighting against rigid educationnal habits of this time, and falling in love with a strong personality, but ghost, and Also with a bad Guy, and finally living all her years alone... till she met her Only love again. I am 58 now but still watch it with such great pleasure, Gene Tierney was a fabulous and sublime actress, feel sorry for all the pain she had. Enjoy this jewel!

See more awards » Edit Storyline In 1900, Lucy Muir (Gene Tierney), widowed for one year, decides to move out of her controlling in-law's house in London to the English seaside with her adolescent daughter Anna (Natalie Wood) and their long devoted maid Martha (Edna Best). Despite the rental agent trying to dissuade her, Lucy decides to rent Gull Cottage at Whitecliff-by-the-Sea. She learns firsthand before she makes the decision the rental agent's hesitance is because the cottage is haunted, supposedly by its now deceased former owner, seaman Captain Daniel Gregg (Sir Rex Harrison). After she moves in, she does meet the spirit of Captain Gregg face-to-face. Because she refuses to be scared away by his presence, the two come to an understanding, including that he will not make his presence known to Anna. As time progresses, the two develop a friendship and a bond. Despite his statements to her that she needs to live her life including finding another husband, Daniel seems not to approve of any of the men that enter...

It was a good way to discuss some important points. Why did I give it three stars? First, let me discuss the good points. The theology is right on (with perhaps the discussion of the Rapture and its point on the timeline, which is by no means certain) that is, the salvation message is right on. The cinematography was well done and the overall storyline interesting enough to pull you in, if you are already saved. There were plenty of scriptural disclaimers with regard to the actual time of Christ's Second Coming that no one can get into the trap of suggesting that there was something out of kilter, here. And it had a really satisfying end. When Detective Ramsey advises his boss to not take The Mark even I, who knows exactly what he was referring to had to think for a moment, but when it finally hit, I had to whoop my pleasure at understanding what the authors were trying to say. This is not a bad film. For Christians. And that's why the three stars. Its not a bad film. The authors use standard cliche phrases to explain the Gospel "God has a plan for your life. "
