Mine was, once or twice, though I would describe the overall experience as satisfaction rather than awe. "A Wrinkle in Time, " faithful to the affirmative, democratic intelligence of the book, is also committed to serving its most loyal and susceptible audience. This is, unapologetically, a children's movie, by turns gentle, thrilling and didactic, but missing the extra dimension of terror and wonder that would have transcended the genre. Thankfully, though, Ms. DuVernay has dispensed with the winking and cutesiness that are Hollywood's preferred ways of pandering and condescending to grown-ups. The best way to appreciate what she has done is in the company of a curious and eager 10-year-old (as I was fortunate enough to do). Or, if you're really lucky, to locate that innocent, skeptical, openhearted version of yourself. The Mandalorian Disney Of the many rumors swirling around the release of Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, there was one persistent one, that as part of Disney brand synergy, The Mandalorian on Disney+ would connect to the film in some way. Did it? Well, to answer that question we have to get into spoiler territory. In short, in the traditional sense, no The Mandalorian is not connected to Rise of Skywalker. There are no cameos from Mandalorian characters, big or small, we do not see any ripple effects of events on the show affecting the film, which takes place something like 25 years later. There is no Baby Yoda showing up, still a baby. There are more Clone Wars and Rebels cameos than there is anything that has to do with The Mandalorian, in fact. With one exception. While there are no character or plotline crossovers between The Mandalorian and Rise of Skywalker, something does happen that many fans are considering a connection, at least one some level. This week on The Mandalorian, Baby Yoda used "Force healing, " a seldom seen Force power which he used to help heal Greef Karga's poisonous wound, saving his life, and causing him to rethink his betrayal scheme.
